Marine upholstery, or boat upholstery, is everything sewn and padded inside a boat: cockpit and saloon cushions, bench upholstery, boat mattresses, sunpads and curtains. Luna Cerade i Tende d.o.o. makes it to measure — to the as-built condition of your boat, in our own workshop in Novi Sad.
- Made strictly to measure
- Marine fabric, outdoor textile and vinyl
- Open-cell HR foam

Which parts of a boat interior are made to measure?
Marine upholstery is everything that gets sewn and padded on a boat or yacht. Luna Cerade i Tende makes it strictly to measure, in our own workshop in Novi Sad — nothing is bought in ready-made and resold.

Boat cushions and seats
Cockpit and saloon boat seats, backrests and side cushions. Cut to the as-built shape, with open-cell HR foam that lets water through and dries out.

Bench upholstery
Recovering existing benches and seats in marine vinyl or outdoor textile, with worn foam and hardware replaced.

Boat mattresses for the cabin
Boat mattresses for the forward and aft cabin, including irregular V-berth shapes, with a cover that unzips and washes.

Sunpads
Foredeck and aft sunpads, in segments that follow the shape of the deck, with fixing points so they stay put under way.

Curtains
Curtains for cabin and saloon windows — shade and privacy, in a material that tolerates damp and washing.
Which materials go into marine upholstery?
A boat interior takes what furniture at home never sees: full sun all day, salt damp, rain, and a constant cycle of getting wet and drying out. That is why only materials certified for UV resistance and water repellency go into it — not ordinary upholstery fabric.
| Material | Where we use it | Why this one |
|---|---|---|
| Marine fabric | Cushions, sunpads, mattresses | Colour holds in the sun and it sheds water; it breathes, so damp does not sit under the cushion |
| Outdoor textile | Seats, backrests, curtains | Made for outdoor use — UV certified, resistant to abrasion and washing |
| Marine vinyl | Bench upholstery, seats exposed to spray | Wipes clean with a damp cloth, does not absorb water, resists salt and cleaning agents |
| Open-cell HR foam | Filling for cushions and mattresses | Lets water and air through — the foam drains and dries instead of holding damp and odour |
Why does an interior give way at the seam and the zip first?
The material is rarely what fails first. What gives way first is the thread on a seam that sits in the sun, and a zip that has taken on salt. That is why the interior gets the same components we use on bimini tops and boat covers.
How is marine upholstery made, step by step?
An interior is not ordered from a catalogue. Every piece is measured, because in practice no two boats of the same model match — not after refits, seat replacements or a different cockpit layout.
Enquiry and photos
You send photos of the current state and rough dimensions. That alone shows what can be recovered and what has to be made new.
Taking measurements
Measurements are taken from the as-built condition, not from the builder's specification. It is most accurate when the boat is with us; if the interior is removable, bringing the existing pieces in is enough — they serve as the pattern.
Choosing material and colour
We choose between marine fabric, outdoor textile and marine vinyl, according to how exposed the piece is to sun and water. Colours are matched to the rest of the boat.
Cutting and sewing
Cut to the as-built shape and sewn with Amann Outdoor PRO thread, with YKK zips on every removable cover.
Fitting and handover
Pieces are test-fitted and adjusted wherever they do not sit right. Only then are they handed over.
When is boat or yacht upholstery rebuilt from scratch?
An interior is rarely replaced because someone got bored of it. It is replaced when the material, the foam or a seam gives way — and these are the four situations we see most often.
How do you make marine upholstery last longer?
Where is marine upholstery made in Novi Sad?
Seat recovering and boat cushion making are done in our own workshop in Novi Sad, Milana Janića 29 — cutting and sewing both happen there, with no middleman. The most accurate result comes when the boat, or the interior itself, is with us, because measuring, test-fitting and final adjustment are done under controlled conditions.
1. The boat comes to us (recommended). You bring the boat to Novi Sad. Measurements are taken on the boat itself, and test-fitting and final adjustment are done on the spot at the workshop.
2. You bring the interior in. If the cushions, seats, loungers and mattresses come off, bringing the existing pieces to us is enough — they serve as the pattern, and the boat does not have to be moved anywhere.
3. We come to you. Possible, but it is the most expensive option and is agreed case by case — it depends on distance, access to the boat and the scope of work.
Alongside marine upholstery we most often make a bimini top, camper enclosure and sprayhood or protective boat cover — so colours and materials are matched in one go. The full programme is on the Luna Nautica.
